Tom Spangenberg has nearly 25 years of experience in the packaging industry. He has served in a variety of leadership roles in field of the Conveyance and Systems Integration which encompasses engineering, project management, product development, field start-ups, and operations. Tom served as President of conveyance industry-leader AMBEC, Inc. prior to the company’s acquisition by Barry-Wehmiller in 2005. After the acquisition, Tom led BW Container Systems’ Conveyance and Controls Business Unit in Lynchburg, VA and helped grow that division into one of North America’s largest and most respected systems providers. Tom is widely considered one of the industry’s leading authorities on conveyance, controls automation and systems integration. Tom and his teams have been creating State-of-the-Art Systems for the packaging industry for over 2 decades. Tom was named Vice President of Systems Integration for BW Integrated Systems in 2017.
Tom’s knowledge and his positive approach to clients and their challenges have led to his team’s consistent success over the year. Tom’s proven track record for problem-solving, team-based leadership, and client-focused solutions have positioned Tom to ably lead the Systems Integration team for BW Integrated Systems. Tom and his team are responsible for designing and executing a variety of Packaging Systems, from highly-integrated, full-scale packaging systems to customized automated solutions.

Tom earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, an MBA from John Hopkins, and is a certified Professional Engineer. Tom has been awarded several patents throughout his career and has spent two decades on Executive Boards for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), most recently as Chair of the Virginia Section. He has been actively involved in the community, including leadership for the Boy Scouts and as advisor for local engineering programs. Tom enjoys running with his dog. He, his wife and their four children reside in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains outside of Lynchburg, Virginia.
